Kristie Kenney was nominated on July 19, 2010 by President Barack Obama to be the United States Ambassador to the Royal Kingdom of Thailand. She was confirmed by the United States Senate on September 30, 2010. A career senior Foreign Service officer, she served as the first female United States Ambassador to the Philippines from 2006-2010. She began her diplomatic career in 1981 and her overseas assignments have included serving as the U.S. Ambassador to Ecuador and in positions at U.S. Embassies in Jamaica, Switzerland, and Argentina.

Ambassador Kenney also served as the State Department Executive Secretary in Washington, D.C. and on the staff of the National Security Council at the White House. She speaks Spanish and French and has won several prominent awards for leadership.

The daughter of a retired public school teacher and a U.S. World War II veteran, Kristie Kenney grew up in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. She obtained a bachelors degree from Clemson University and a master’s degree from Tulane University in New Orleans. She also attended the National War College in Washington, D.C.

For the last twenty-four years, she has been married to Bill Brownfield, who was recently nominated by President Obama to be Assistant Secretary of State for International Narcotics, Law Enforcement and Crime. Kristie and Bill enjoy playing and watching sports, travel, and spending time with their families. They share their home with two black and white cats named “Emily” and “Junior” who they adopted from an animal shelter.

เอกอัครราชทูตคริสตี้ เคนนี่ย์ ได้รับการเสนอชื่อจากประธานาธิบดีบารัค โอบามาให้เป็นเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศไทยเมื่อวันที่ 19 กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. 2553 และท่านได้รับความเห็นชอบจากวุฒิสภาสหรัฐฯ ให้ดำรงตำแหน่งนี้เมื่อวันที่ 30 กันยายน พ.ศ. 2553  เอกอัครราชทูตเคนนี่ย์เป็นข้าราชการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศอาวุโส และเป็นสตรีคนแรกที่ดำรงตำแหน่งเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศฟิลิปปินส์ระหว่างปีพ.ศ. 2549 – 2553  ท่านเริ่มอาชีพนักการทูตเมื่อปีพ.ศ. 2524  ตำแหน่งขณะประจำในต่างประเทศของท่าน อาทิเช่น เอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐอเมริกาประจำประเทศเอกวาดอร์ และประจำที่สถานเอกอัครราชทูตสหรัฐฯ ในจาเมกา สวิตเซอร์แลนด์และอาร์เจนตินา

นอกจากนี้ เอกอัครราชทูตเคนนี่ย์เคยยังดำรงตำแหน่งผู้อำนวยการ สำนักเลขาธิการประจำรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ (Executive Secretary) ที่กรุงวอชิงตัน ดี.ซี. และเป็นเจ้าหน้าที่สภาความมั่นคงแห่งชาติที่ทำเนียบขาว  ท่านสามารถพูดภาษาต่างประเทศได้ 2 ภาษา คือ ภาษาสเปนและภาษาฝรั่งเศส และได้รับรางวัลสำคัญด้านภาวะผู้นำหลายรางวัล  มารดาของเอกอัครราชทูตเคนนี่ย์เป็นข้าราชการครูเกษียณอายุและบิดาเป็นทหารผ่านศึกสงครามโลกครั้งที่ 2  ท่านเติบโตในย่านชานเมืองของกรุงวอชิงตัน ดี.ซี.  เอกอัครราชทูตเคนนี่ย์สำเร็จการศึกษาระดับปริญญาตรีจากมหาวิทยาลัย Clemson และปริญญาโทจากมหาวิทยาลัย Tulane เมืองนิวออร์ลีนส์  นอกจากนี้ ท่านยังได้เข้ารับการอบรมที่วิทยาลัยป้องกันประเทศในกรุงวอชิงตัน ดี.ซี. 

ตลอดช่วง 24 ปีที่ผ่านมา ท่านสมรสกับ นายบิล บราวน์ฟีลด์ ซึ่งประธานาธิบดีโอบามาเพิ่งเสนอชื่อให้เป็นผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศด้านการปราบปรามยาเสพติด การบังคับใช้กฎหมายและอาชญากรรมระหว่างประเทศ  เอกอัครราชทูตเคนนี่ย์และผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีฯ บิลชอบชมและเล่นกีฬา เดินทางท่องเที่ยวและใช้เวลาอยู่กับครอบครัว  ท่านทั้งสองมีแมวสีดำขาวสองตัวชื่อ “เอมิลี” และ “จูเนียร์” ซึ่งท่านรับมาเลี้ยงจากสถานพักพิงสัตว์
